Pettiskirt Play…

March 26, 2011

So, new props have arrived including some new pettiskirts, so what better to do on a cloudy Saturday morning than head out in the backyard with one of my girls and do a little photo session. Of course I need to show the new props and skirts, and it gave us a reason to get out there to play and shoot! Nothing more fun than spending good quality play time with my girl, and incoorporating what I love almost as much as her in the process!

Here’s the product of our morning play session…it was great fun and a WONDERFUL way to start off a fabulous weekend!

Prop Insanity…

March 4, 2011

So, today off I went in search of new shooting locations and hopefully some new props. I have a love of old things, and it really doesnt matter what…old people, old animals, old furniture, old houses… I could go on and on! There is something magical to me about the past, history and all that’s in it. Seeing and imagining how things were back then, how different the world is today and not for the better I will have to say. I long for a simpler way of life, and I suppose that’s why I’m drawn to the older things, antiques/vintage…call them what you will. I grew up with stories of the 1920′s, 30′s, 40′s and up. My parents were older when I came along, my Father fought in WWII and arrived at Pearl Harbor the day after the attack on his way to his assignment in China. So, I suppose their stories etc…planted that love of the past in me.

With my love of the past and passion for photography, there is nothing better in a prop than something old. I went to a local antique shop today and it was like walking into a paradise of all that I love in the past, I mean I wanted everything!!! But, of course one cant have everything they want right?! So, slowly I walked through looking for things that one I could afford and two that I knew would be perfect props for my business. I came across several things, and bought most of what I knew I could use! I landed some pretty cool stuff and can not wait to use them!!!

I thought I’d share a few shots of today’s treasures I found, and have made a mental note to myself….I WILL BE GOING BACK to that shot very soon! Why, because not only do I have a love of old things, but I totally have…prop insanity!

The Love of Textures….

February 28, 2011

I’ve been doing photography for quite a while now, and came across textures a few years ago. I instantly fell in love with them! They can dramatically change the look of an image and in some instances can really bring an ordinary shot to LIFE! After saying that however, textures used on the wrong type of image, or used improperly can actually ruin a good photograph that could easily stand on it’s own. I’ve come to realize through trial and error using textures really depends upon how you want an image to look, but then there are those images that you capture and immediately know that a texture will add character, almost seeming as though it makes the shot breath life of it’s own.

That’s what happened this afternooon while behind my lens shooting some new shots of my youngest Grandson! I havent seen him in a while and wanted some recent shots of him, so as we’re playing and laughing and shooting pictures of him being him, I captured some shots that I knew as soon as the shutter snapped were texture images! Those are what I thought I would share with you this evening. Here are those shots that to me have a life of their own!

Never Ending Winter…

February 28, 2011

Well, it seems as though the south has been hit with numerous winter storms, which is very rare! Here in eastern NC we’ve had 3 good snow storms, usually if we get snow every 5 years we’re doing good, but it looks like Mother Nature had different plans for us this winter. So, being who I am what else could I do but grab my camera, load some kiddos in the car and set off on a winter wonderland adventure! I mean how many times do I really get to shoot in the snow? Not many! Of course we were one of the few vehicles on the road, and driving was slow, but it was an adventure right?! Your supposed to take your time!

Here are just a few shot of the winter wonderland adventure my girls and I took during one of the storms this winter…they were such troopers as the wind whipped through our hair, fingers and bones!!! It was definitely cold out there, but looking at these shots, you could never tell!

Live, Laugh & Love

November 28, 2010

This morning I had a great Holiday Mini Session with a WONDERFUL family! Not only are they great people, but they’re a family with twin boys. That factor is especially close to my heart because I am a Mom of twins, boys the same ages as theirs! So while we had loads of fun during the session, it’s times like these that really make me remember why I do what I do. I love my job and working with families like this one makes it all the more better! If I had to describe this family in 3 words, they would truly be “Live, Laugh & Love”.

Here’s some images from our morning fun….
