Giddy Up Horsey…

July 28, 2010

A couple of days ago my Daughter asked me to come up to her house (about an hr away) to shoot some pictures of my Grandson…it’s been a few months since I’ve done some of him and he’s growing so quickly she wanted more done. Mainly for family and friends to have some that dont already, not to mention he needed shots of just him done as well. So, off I went and arrived to a happy little Man wanting me to hold him constantly. It’s always heartwarming when your Grandson is happy to see you and sticks to you like glue.

We set up the studio and got the props together and one of those props was a rocking horse, this was the first time he’s been on it although it sits in his room all the time. He loved that thing and wasnt very happy when  he had to get off of it :) So, here’s a few shots from the session that I rightly named “Giddy Up Horsey”

Family Ties…

May 8, 2010

It’s definitely been one long week for me…unexpected happenings and personal issues seemed to get in the way of things I needed to get done. Not that I’m saying I minded, because that’s all part of life, love and the daily grind. So, after having a crazy week, it was nice to get away yesterday evening to do a family session. My daughter has long been after me to take family pictures for her and I just now have had the time to get to it. Off we went as the sun was heading to bed in the golden light of the end of the day. It was great fun shooting these pictures and who doesnt like pictures shot in the “golden hour”. Here’s a few from the session and the love, laughter and happiness we all shared during our short time together :)

What’s for dinner?

April 29, 2010

My 10 year old daughter Tara loves to cook, she watched the food network religiously and would rather watch “Paula Deen” and the other personalities on that channel than cartoons or other kid shows. I’ve always found her fasination with the art of cooking interesting, and something that she will probably continue on with into adulthood.

So, with that history in mind we recently watched the movie Julie & Julia and she was very taken by it. She adored the movie and wanted to try what Julie tried…so with that seed planted, I decided to help her. Making it a project for the both of us I thought would be interesting, fun and create some really good bonding time between us. Not to metion the idea of making a photography project out of this adventure with at least the hopes of getting a few GOOD shots to frame and put up on our dinningroom walls!

I wasnt sure how hard the book would be to find. I mean lets face it, the last time I saw that book was in my Mother’s kitchen umpteen years ago when I was a kid. Julia Child isnt exactly a known celebrity in today’s childhood circles, even for a child that watched cooking shows on a constant basis. So, taking a chance that our local bookstore would have a copy in stock I set out on a mission….to find “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” by Julia Child. Luckily I found a copy (the only one) in a store and jerked it up with glee in my heart!!!

Tonight was our first try at one of the recipes out of the beloved book. We made…”Supremes De Volaille A Blanc” which in english means…”Breast of Chicken with Cream” and while I believe this is one of the simpler dishes to make, it was in fact WONDERFUL!!! Then again, everything about preparing it was wonderful! The time we spent together, learning how to cook this dish, putting the ingredients together in hopes we do it right, and then witnessing the final result with pride and amazement that we cooked a French dish together!!!

Of course the evening wouldnt have been complete without my trusty camera by my side (or at least close by…dont want to get anything on that while we cooked) shooting pictures of the stages of preperation and seeing the joy in my child’s eyes as she reduced port wine & stock for the cream sauce! Seeing her excitement after tasting it and finding it to be utterly delicious!

Here’s a few shots of our evening adventure and the first of what I hope will be a long lasting project of Tara and mine…at least until we cook our way through the book. Nothing is better than spending time with your children doing something they’re interested in and love in the hopes of planting the seed of a future that could reach the stars!

Enjoy the images and in the words of Julia Child….BON APPETIT!!!!

Front Yard Funnies…

April 27, 2010

This afternoon my oldest Daughter came over to visit and brought with her my sweet Grandson August! He’s such a character and so funny at times it’s really a treat to just watch him. He was in a great mood today so what did his Nana do??? She took him outside in the front yard for some camera time!

This little boy loves the camera, and I guess rightly so considering he’s been in front of one most of his life. If it isnt me with a camera zeroed in on him, it’s his Mom. He was so funny to watch in the grass, he was so amazed by it. I think his favorite discovery today however were the stray leaves left in the yard from our last mowing, to say he was captivated by them would probably be an understatement.

Here’s a few shots from our adventure in the front yard today…I look at these pictures and can do nothing but smile…he is such a sweet little man, and a wonderful subject to capture!

Sunday’s Backyard Play…

April 27, 2010

It had been so long since I’ve taken pictures of my boys, so with camera in hand out the door we went to the backyard. My boys are always so energetic and free spirited, it’s really hard not to want to take a picture of everything they do! Yesterday was pretty warm with the threat of a thunderstorm off and on, but the sun was still shinning through the clouds down on their sweet faces.

I have found more and more these days that I would rather spend time with my children more than any other thing in the world. I love my life and those within it. Blessed is not a big enough word to express the feelings I have within my heart for these people I call my family. Watching them was so much fun, shooting pictures of their play was and is a honor to me. I’m just thankful I can capture these precious and timeless moments within my camera and most of all my heart!
